Adorned for Myself
DC WEB FEST x KAWAII RIOT x JADEDISLAND COLLABORATION: Overcoming Fear
2020 is a year of tremendous trial for creative and alternative communities. As we enter this Halloween season, we need hope and a chance to encourage our personal creativity. We may not be going to Halloween parties or trick-or-treating with friends, but that doesn’t mean our costumes and spooky styles have to sit idle at home! We can still show the world our creativity. During this time, we would like to encourage alternative fashion, cosplay, and creative communities to share their stories. In the spirit of the season, we want to talk about overcoming fear in our alternative and creative lifestyles. Whether that be the fear of dressing differently or sharing creative ideas with others, we want to know how you use style to challenge yourself and overcome personal limitations.
Creatives from all walks of life are coming together to take part in this uniting experience. From cosplay to alternative fashion, let’s use our visual and creative storytelling to share in this unique experience.
Our Goals:
DC Web Fest will host a competition in collaboration with @jadedisland, @lilyascanbe, @alanaowlet, and @tsuy0kei. Beginning the first week of October, members of the cosplay, alternative fashion, DnD, and other creative communities are invited to submit their stories.
Our goal is to celebrate these communities and amplify their voices through the month of October – and beyond. We want to shine a light on their incredible work, powerful stories, and unique perspectives.
Fear. We all feel it. But not everyone finds the tools to overcome it.
How has cosplay and alternative fashion helped you find your truth — your voice —and how has it helped you overcome that fear? More importantly, how has it helped you find strength?
We want to hear your stories (and admire your mad skills while we’re at it).
Competition Details:
Starting the first week of October, you can submit your story by posting a video or photo with a caption telling us your story on Instagram.
